Welcome to another year of Fun-a-day!  It’s been a while since we posted here. This is mostly an email we recently sent out. Let’s revisit some basics about FAD itself:

One can still sign up for Fun-a-day 2023! Your friends and relations and people you see on the street can still sign up for Fun-a-day. Please spread the signup link to anyone who needs some fun in their lives (that’s everyone, right?) and who might be interested.

Want some guidelines for Fun-a-day?
1. Come up with something fun/creative to do that will get you out of bed every day in January. Or as many days as are left in January. Or at least on weekends. Unless you do your best work in the prone position, then just get on with it!
2. Document it somehow! (unless the ephemerality is part of the joy for you)
3. Spread the fun. Post on FB (your feed, the FAD community page), Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, whatever media is out there, or just email us updates if you don’t use the social media. Tag #funadaypgh so others can find and browse everyone’s submissions!
4. Consider being part of this year’s FAD show. Think as you go about how you want to present your project- we want to show everyone’s work so any creative ideas for a compact display are very welcome.

We’re still figuring out the logistics for the show. The last two years we did virtual shows, but we’re working on setting up an in-person event again this year. Thanks to everyone who said they could help that effort on the sign up sheet- if you haven’t heard from us yet you will soon. Even if you didn’t, feel free to reach out if you have contacts with galleries or other ideas to pass off to help it happen!

Fun-A-Day is a nice way to meet new people (even virtually), a good push to focus on a neat project during one of the coldest months of the year, and also gives you a great start for this upcoming year to keep doing awesome things with your art! Still not sure what you want to do? Some past ideas for inspiration: drawing/painting a day, a writing or poem per day, making some sort of food/cocktails/mocktails, adding to a work such as a row of a knit blanket, walking in a new neighborhood each day, writing or recording songs, making outfits for a doll, making or sending postcards… mending, collage, dancing, framing, doodling, embroidery, landscape design, book binding, ceramics, or photography!

It is pretty open, just remember it’s supposed to be fun. If you need to change in the middle you can. I have found my best projects to be pretty specific, so I know what I’m doing each day, with flexibility on how much time can I put in. There’s no limit to what you do, and how often you do it. You set your own rules, but the idea of this is to keep plugging away at whatever your creative heart desires and document it and share with your friends and family and neighbors!  It’s ideal if you can keep working on it each day, but BE KIND to yourself, and use it as a motivation, not as a stressor. The whole point of FAD is to feed your creative spark and be FUN (heck, it’s in the name!)

Reach out to us with any questions, and we’ll keep you all posted on any other developments. Also be sure to check out the Fun-A-Day Pgh Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/funadaypgh), and share your creations (or works in progress too)!

Cheers, and have FUN!
